A Brief History:

From humble beginnings of 11 charter members in July of 1979, the Khiva Oriental Band has grown to 50 members in 2009 and has thrived to become one of Khiva Shrine Center's most prominent units in it's present state. There are still a few of these charter members that remain active in the Band today. We are a group that has become a paragon for Oriental Bands not only in Texas, but nationally (see musical accomplishments). We have attributed this by the dynamic and dedicated endeavor of our present and previous leaders who have inspired, poked and prodded those (us) from all walks of life with most of us possessing little, or no musical embracement. It's called "practice" for the amateurs and hard work for all - but, oh the fun we do have! For those of us that been doing this for so long - we look back to see -What did I do? What did I have before the Band came parading into my life?

Our Purpose:
Is to maintain an Oriental Band operating under the rules governing units of Khiva Shrine, to reflect credit upon all Shrinedom, and to support and promote activities of Khiva Shrine Center as may be assigned by the Illustrious Potentate. Such activities may include, but not be limited to, the crippled children and burn center hospitals, attendance at the Texas Shrine Association annual meetings (aka TSA or All-State), Imperial Council sessions, area parades and other local and statewide events that further the cause of Shrinedom.

That said, it really goes beyond this..... as we cultivate true, lasting friendships while helping unfortunate kids.
